The Problem

Housing instability is a growing crisis in our community, with tenants, particularly those using housing subsidies, are facing increasing and overlapping challenges. Rapidly increasing rent continues to push individuals and families out of longtime homes and neighborhoods, while unsafe and unaddressed housing conditions threaten physical well‑being and dignity. Many tenants also encounter retaliation or discrimination when they assert their rights or request basic repairs, creating fear and discouraging them from seeking help. Compounding these issues is a lack of accessible advocacy and support services, leaving residents to navigate complex systems alone.

The consequences of housing instability extend far beyond the walls of a home. Constant housing insecurity contributes to heightened stress, worsens chronic health conditions, and disrupts access to healthcare, employment, and education. For vulnerable populations, these pressures reinforce cycles of instability that are difficult to escape without meaningful intervention. Addressing housing instability is not only a matter of fairness and safety, it is essential to improving overall health, stability, and opportunity within our community.
